"Primaries," 2018
Yesterday, eight states held primary elections. I thought about the word “primary” and my mind, as an artist, went to the color wheel. I imagined a group of young children sitting on a rug, learning basic color theory.
This is a play on the double meaning of that word — primary — and as the class goes with “blue” as its favorite color, two different interpretations can be drawn. First, that Dems did pretty well yesterday in Cali (California). Second, since the kindergarteners chose “blue,” it means that younger people generally lean left, though a new wave of blatant misogyny and white supremacy has bubbled into plain view since 2016. That’s too much to get into for a third time political cartoonist, though.
Artist’s note: the red marker I had was all dried out, so I made this color but first coloring with an orange marker then coloring over that with a pink market.
